A Suffolk student has spoken of his pride after achieving a prestigious engineering scholarship.

Abir Hussain has been awarded the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship – which recognises young students who show excellent potential in being future leaders in engineering.

The Felixstowe School student endured a two-hour online interview and exam but wowed judges and school staff alike.

Abir, 16, who lives in the town, said: “I was nervous for the exam, and actually wasn’t sure if I had passed, so I am very proud to have achieved the scholarship.

“I’m good with my hands and love creating things, both in school and at home, and my dream job would be working for the European Space Agency. This scholarship will help towards me achieving this dream.”

The Arkwright Engineering Scholarship offers mentoring, opportunities and funds in the field of engineering.

Tom Corker, head of technology at Felixstowe School, said: “The award is particularly for those students who have an X Factor to be a future leader in engineering.

“Abir has done very well as only about 300 students across the country achieve this accolade.

“He has shown great commitment and worked very hard and deserves this success.” Abir is the second student from Felixstowe School to have earned the scholarship after Alex Needle achieved the same feat last year.
