Careers at Felixstowe School
Felixstowe School is committed to providing students with a comprehensive programme of Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG), supporting students in making well-informed choices at key transition points in their education by providing impartial information, advice and guidance to help prepare them for whatever their next steps might be.
Careers Programme
The Careers Programme is mainly delivered in the four Enrichment Days during the academic year and as part of the tutorial programme. Whilst at Felixstowe School students will look at:
- Employability skills and qualifications that are required for the workplace,
- Be encouraged to link curriculum learning to the world of work,
- Learn how to write CVs and prepare for interviews,
- Have an understanding of the full range of post 16 and 18 pathways,
- Have a Career Advice and Guidance meeting with our Independent Careers Adviser.
The Programme aims to address students’ individual needs, raise aspirations and challenge stereotypes. Please find the Careers Programme in the Resources column.
Students are welcome in the Careers Hub throughout the school day and can make appointments to see any member of the Careers Team:
Mrs Cobain (Careers Coordinator)
Mrs Lloyd (Careers Lead)
Miss Richards (Independent Careers Adviser)
Ms Garratt (Neaco Higher Education Champion)
Careers Education involves a wide range of stakeholders both inside and outside the school. Alongside the support of our Careers team, parents and carers also have a responsibility to support their child.
Parents and carers should play an active role in exploring options and choices as this will impact on your child’s future. There are a number of website links in the Careers Resources page that you may wish to look at with your child at home.
To arrange a meeting please contact Mrs Cobain, Careers Coordinator, on 01394 288228 or email ecobain@fxs.org.uk.
Measuring and Assessing Impact
We use the Career and Enterprise Company’s Compass self-evaluation toolkit to evaluate our progress in working towards the Gatsby Benchmarks and to identify areas of development. We are always pleased to hear feedback from students and parents and carers on the career activities that have taken place and to receive any general feedback on Felixstowe School’s programme. This can be forwarded to our Careers Coordinator, Mrs Cobain.
Provider Access Statement
A copy of the School’s Provider Access policy statement can be found here. Providers and employers who wish to come into school to work with students and staff to give information, advice and guidance on the education, training and employment opportunities that they offer should follow the procedure set out in this policy.
Information for Employers
We welcome and value the opportunity to work with employers to support our careers programme.
Employers can support our careers programme in a variety of ways including speaking to students about jobs in their industry, offering work experience placements, attending our careers fair, mentoring students, and delivering assemblies and carrying out mock interviews with students.
If you are interested in working in partnership with us, or you are keen to offer opportunities to our students, please contact Mrs Cobain, Careers Coordinator on 01394 288228 or email ecobain@fxs.org.uk.
