Following a successful Plastic and Pollution Themed Learning Day, dozens of students signed up to be involved in the school’s new Garden Project.
With just under half an acre of grassland allocated as our work space, we were tasked with transforming it into something productive, beautiful and reflective. Plans were put together and work started in Spring 2019.
In May 2019, we were delighted to be awarded with Level 2 in the RHS School Gardening Awards to recognise the students’ hard work and effort.
One third of the space was allocated as a nature/wildlife reserve, one third to growing fruits and vegetables, and one third as quiet, reflective space for students and staff.
The garden features a tool shed, a large poly tunnel, a wildlife pond, raised beds and an outdoor labyrinth space. We are grateful to the Friends of Felixstowe Academy, Felixstowe Town Council, and Boost for supporting the garden and making the project possible.
All students are welcome to Garden Club, which takes place every Thursday after school until 4pm, meeting in the Garden.
